Cook and Timers

Follow cooking steps and use timers in Start Cooking.

Follow the Current Step

Cook focuses on one instruction at a time. A step can include:

  • Its step number and full instruction.
  • The ingredients used in that step.
  • Helpful equipment.
  • Relevant times and temperatures.
  • A short preview of the next step.

Ingredient checks in Cook are a memory aid for the current session. They do not remove ingredients from the recipe.

Use Next to continue. Previous moves to the prior cooking step; from the first cooking step it returns to Prep. Choose Finish after the last step when you want to end the session and clear its temporary progress.

Start a Timer

When a cooking step contains usable timing information, choose its timer button. You can run more than one cooking timer and open the timer controls to:

  • Pause or resume a timer.
  • Add one minute.
  • Cancel a timer.
  • Restart a completed timer.

Starting a timer does not advance the cooking step automatically.

Timers on iPhone and iPad

Allow alarm access when prompted so a cooking timer can ring and appear on the Lock Screen or Dynamic Island. The alarm continues until it is stopped.

If alarm access is off, the timer can continue inside Sparky Cooks, but it cannot provide the full system alarm experience. Open iOS Settings from the prompt to allow alarms.

Timers on the Web

Keep Sparky Cooks open while using a browser timer. Allow browser notifications when you want a notification at the end. Browser and device settings can limit sound or notifications when the page is in the background.

Cooking timers are local to the device or browser where they were started. They do not synchronize to another device.
